Creative Response
Creative Response is a New Orleans-based art and movement building initiative supporting artists, performers, writers, filmmakers, and cultural bearers in the Greater New Orleans Metro Area facing the social and economic impacts of disasters, pandemics, and unmitigated climate vulnerabilities—from displacement, loss of income, and health challenges to toxic exposure, severed resources, evictions, and ongoing affordable housing needs, to voting rights violations, increased reproductive regulations, and immigration restrictions—while advancing transformative and equitable change within the broader arts community in Southeast Louisiana.
Initiated by Antenna at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which ground to a halt most art-based programming, gig work, and the city’s core economic engine with canceled and postponed events, closures, and lost opportunities, wages, and layoffs. While there would never be a welcome moment for such a crisis, the consequences of ignoring the region and failing to act would have been tragic without a coordinated critical response. This is the work Creative Response.
Creative Response exists to provide direct economic support and opportunities to artists, performers, writers, filmmakers, and cultural bearers working within various practices and across multiple disciplines; and serve as a resource and advocacy hub through an active network of artists and organizations working to reimagine the region’s arts landscape that centers equity, justice, accountability, and sustainable livelihoods.
