Lebanon Emergency
On the night between March 1 and 2, nationwide bombardments began in Lebanon and have not ceased since, affecting the southern suburbs of the capital, the Bekaa Valley, and several areas in the South of the country.
At least one million people have been forced to flee their homes, often without being able to take anything with them. Reception centers are now overwhelmed, and many families are forced to find shelter wherever they can, often sleeping in cars or outdoors.
Of the total displaced population, only around 136,000 people have found space in government-organized shelters across approximately 663 locations, most of them schools already beyond capacity.
So far, AVSI has supported 10,000 people, but the prolonged crisis requires sustained assistance. AVSI is working on the ground to meet immediate needs and transform shelters into safe, dignified spaces.
What AVSI is currently doing:
- Distributing drinking water, hygiene kits, clothing, mattresses, blankets, and wheelchairsÂ
- Providing psychosocial support through hotline servicesÂ
- Installing showers and portable toilets in shelters
