COVID-19 & Protest Rapid Response Fund

COVID-19 & Protest Rapid Response Fund

The Philadelphia Bail Fund is working urgently to free as many of our neighbors as possible during this pandemic. There is an urgent need to post bail as COVID-19 threatens people in jail, where crowded living quarters and inadequate health care make conditions ripe for a viral outbreak.

We stand in solidarity with those protesting the murder of Walter Wallace, Jr. at the hands of Philadelphia police, and earlier this year we supported Philadelphians protesting the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department. We demand an end to police violence against Black communities and are committed to providing direct bail assistance to people participating in actions to ensure their safe return home.

Since January 2020, we helped bring over 300 people home from Philly’s jails. But we continue to receive a flood of referrals, as our neighbors continue to be held in cages.

Your donation helps us respond quickly by freeing our neighbors who remain in jail simply because they cannot pay bail. Your support now means we can free as many people as possible, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

The city failed. This protest was bound to happen, guess the city doesn't have Facebook? The city should've worked with the organizers. Close roads, redirect traffic, and set up supplies. The cops should've worked with the protestors to accost the aggressors (the rioters). The protestors should've worked with those unable to protect their homes and livelihoods. Instead we have bad cops mixed with the good cops, the rioters and looters mixed with the protesters, and the message muffled by helicopters, sirens, and the city burning. It's a free for all for a new pair of shoes. Of course, everyone has a reason. Cops would say they were doing their jobs (didn't know attacking protestors was a job), protestors want their voices heard (yet they stand by and let rioters take over), and looters say they're broke (wow, really?). I'm all for protesting, I hope those cops get locked up, I want more police reform, I want quality cops, not quantity. I want your voices heard. I want responses. I want us to be able to talk it out. My cousin is in the protest. He got gassed, beat, arrested, then released. It got personal after that, but I haven't done much for it. The city failed. What bothers me more is I failed. Failed to take action. So here's to the cause, so this mission doesn't fail. So humanity doesn't fail.
