COVID-19 & Protest Rapid Response Fund
COVID-19 & Protest Rapid Response Fund
The Philadelphia Bail Fund is working urgently to free as many of our neighbors as possible during this pandemic. There is an urgent need to post bail as COVID-19 threatens people in jail, where crowded living quarters and inadequate health care make conditions ripe for a viral outbreak.
We stand in solidarity with those protesting the murder of Walter Wallace, Jr. at the hands of Philadelphia police, and earlier this year we supported Philadelphians protesting the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department. We demand an end to police violence against Black communities and are committed to providing direct bail assistance to people participating in actions to ensure their safe return home.
Since January 2020, we helped bring over 300 people home from Philly’s jails. But we continue to receive a flood of referrals, as our neighbors continue to be held in cages.

The protests following the murder of George Floyd are not the result of a single loss. They are the result of 400 years of systematic oppression and injustice. #restinpower

Incarceration is not the answer, especially not for those that do not have the means necessary to survive within this system. Healing must come in a different form.

White privilege is using the power we have to make a difference for those who dont have the same opportunities. Uniting together to fight the injustices is the only way to overcome. Enough is enough.
