Goal

While serving in the French Foreign Legion in the 80's and 90's I had the pleasure of working alongside US Forces both Army and Marines during the First Gulf War and during Operation Restore Hope in Somalia and during my career in the security industry in Africa and the Middle East I made some great friends in the US Military community.

As a veteran who struggled from time to time until I got help, I know the importance of good mental health, a good support network and getting help, so the topic of veteran suicide has always been important to me.
I'm delighted to partner with 22Mohawks and raise fund to help fellow veterans.
As a dog lover and having a history of raising funds for an assistance dog charity in Ireland already, 22Mohawks stood out with their Pups For Vets program.

22 Mohawks is a 501(c)(3) Veteran Charitable Organization helping veterans lead themselves to find purpose. They do this by bringing veterans, their families and the community together through social connection to create a sense of belonging, hosting airborne parachute retreats, providing comfort dogs through their Pups for Vets Program and teaching Suicide Prevention Classes. 22Mohawks is a fully volunteer powered company with 100% of proceeds going directly into their programs.

22Mohawks Pups for Vets program provides veterans with companion dogs and options for training at no cost to the veteran. Since Sept 2021 to August 2023 they have paired 77 veterans with pups.

Crossing the US on foot has always a long-term goal of mine, originally it was something to do once I retired however recently after the sudden death of one of my best friends and fellow Foreign Legion veteran, I decided to accelerate my plans.

Starting on the 24th of October 2023 I will be beginning my attempt to cross the continental US from its most Easterly point at West Quoddy Lighthouse in Maine finishing at Cape Alva in Washington State, the most Westerly point on foot and by packraft.

This won't be a non-stop trek due to commitments but will take place over 2023 / 2024.

The conditions of the journey that I've set myself is that it must be made under human power alone with no motorized transport allowed.

The trek has been planned in three phases with multiple legs and using the Eastern Greenway Trail, Greater American Rails to Trails Trail and the Snake / Columbia Rivers to Portland, Oregon and back on foot to Cape Alva, Washington.

The entire journey being in the region of 5000 miles.

Come walk some miles with me.

Phase One:

Maine / New Hampshire / Massachusetts / Rhode Island / Connecticut / New York / Pennsylvania / Maryland...Ending in Washington D.C.

Phase Two:

Maryland / Pennsylvania / Ohio / Indiana / Illinois / Iowa / Nebraska / Wyoming / Montana / Idaho.

Phase Three:

Idaho / Oregon / Washington.
