Meals August/September during Covid-19 lockdown
HELP US FEED THE KIDS DURING AUGUST/ SEPTEMBER!
Due to the Covid-19 Virus the schools in Uganda are closed since 20th March and our children miss out on their daily meals.
We asked permission from the Local Council to organize meals again at our office. We got permission now to feed 30 kids at a time at our offices in Kampala and Jinja. Hence for the upcoming month of August and September, we are planning to organize daily meals at our office for the children and depending on the budget to also hand out bags with posho (this is a maize flour) and beans to their families.
To give only the 375 kids (and not their siblings) one meal a day we need: 187.50 euro per day. So that is for August 5.812,50 euro and September 5.625,00 euro. Total: 11.437,50
1 kilo of posho = 0.80 euro
1 kilo of beans = 1.25 euro
At 22STARS we have 375 kids who are living in 267 families. With 250 grams of posho and beans a day a person can survive. One family has around 5 persons. Initially we helped the families with 100 euro a month. This went quickly down to 50 euro a month per family, so 10 euro a person. However, this still would have meant we would have needed to raise 13.350 euro per month. Something we were not able to reach monthly. Hence why we decided to give out now foremost meals only to our 22STARS children, which also just became possible again this month, since now small groups of 30 kids are allowed again.
Our 22STARS children in Jinja last month receiving food to take home to their families.
