Goal
Each June 20, the globe comes together to honor World Refugee Day. The United Nations General Assembly launched the holiday in 2000, and since then, the worldwide community has spent the day focused on ways to improve the lives of refugees. Most of us know that refugees are forced to leave their homes due to war, terror, or other crises—but fleeing their home country is often just the beginning of a difficult journey. Many refugees find themselves living in camps until they are resettled—some of which are dangerous or not well-equipped for long term living so it’s more important than ever to share support and to celebrate World Refugee Day!
Please join us in fundraising for the refugees with a live virtual cooking lesson with a Michelin-trained chef, Diogo Veladas on Sunday, June 20th at 1PM PST to learn how to prepare Khoresh Bademjan خورش بادمجان — a classic Persian Eggplant Stew. He will walk you through every single ingredient and instruction moment by moment. You will have the opportunity to engage and ask him any questions throughout the live lesson. RSVP is required as some preparation is needed and the class is approximately 2-3 hours long.
Diogo is a Portuguese born, fine dining chef with a wide background having traveled for 12+ years prior to settling down in Los Angeles, Ca. He has worked at the top restaurants in the world such as Ocean in the south of Portugal, 2 Michelin star and L'Arpége in Paris with Alain Passard, 3 Michelin star.
For more info regarding his work, please visit his website here.
We will send out the method for the cooking lesson plus the list of ingredients one week prior to ensure everyone is properly prepared prior to the beginning of the virtual lesson together. 100% of the donation for the ticket is going to our community center in Lesvos, Greece which offers a wide variety of programs such as English classes, musical lessons, self defense, and yoga to name a few. For more information on the center, please click here.
If you have any additional questions, feel free to email us here.
