Contingent Magazine

Contingent Magazine is built on three principles: that history is for everyone, that every way of doing history is worthwhile, and that historians should be paid for their work. To continue publishing high-quality history that honors all three of these principles, Contingent needs your support.

Your recurring or one-time donation will help ensure that we can

  • plan the contents of forthcoming issues
  • sign contracts with our contributors
  • pay the editorial staff for their work
  • pay for the software that keeps the site and the organization running

With your support, we've published pieces on colonial dinosaur hunts and the history of women's wrestling gear, what it's like to record oral histories with veterans and what it's like when your university closes. Your donation will help us bring you more great history writing by helping us pay historians--and web designer and artists and editors--for their work.

Read more about who we are, what we're doing, and why we're doing it on our website.

Contingent, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, EIN 83-2403853. All donations are tax deductible.

I just heard a new books podcast in which the historian, with an nyu press book saying new & interesting things and a fancy phd, was contingent at a tiny mass state school i'd never heard of. The system is broken. Thanks for calling attention to it. L'Chaim
