Conquering COVID-19
Since 2002, Williamsburg Faith In Action (WFIA) has existed to serve Williamsburg seniors in a way that is personal. Over the years, we’ve had countless volunteers spend time with local seniors in their homes, in cars on the way to appointments, or down grocery aisles for weekly shopping trips. Up until this past month, that was always our goal: to be connected, warm, and, most of all, personal.
Because of this unprecedented pandemic, WFIA has been forced into a new phase of service. It has forced us to find an innovative way to maintain the thing that made us so special in the first place: connection.
While this pandemic has taken away the physical aspect of connection from our mission, it hasn’t taken away the human connection. We have volunteers offering their time and energy to make phone visits to care receivers who are in need of human connection, even from afar. We have staff members working from home, calling our 300+ senior care receivers each week to ensure they are taken care of and remind them they are our priority. Our staff members are handling grocery pick up, food pantry pick up, and prescription pick up to help keep the vulnerable population we serve safe.
However, through all of this, we still need YOUR help to conquer this virus' effect on our organization.
While our services have changed temporarily, our organization’s needs have not. Our rent is still due each month, though our office is going unused. Our salaries still need to be paid, though our daily responsibilities have changed. Our programs, such as our upcoming respite care program, are still in development, though their starting dates will be pushed. Though many things have changed, these constants, and these needs, have not.
Our organization is being faced with many difficult decisions in regards to the present and the future. Decisions made based on funding can change the future of WFIA. This is why we need your help and our community’s support. We need your help staying around for the next 18 years and beyond. Most importantly, we need your help to ensure that we can go right back to where we left off once we’re able to open our doors.
If our needs are not met during this time of temporary change, we will no longer be able to exist in the capacity we once were. We’re waiting and ready for the day that we’re able to do so…and we hope you’ll join us in support during this time of many unknowns.
Will YOU help us conquer COVID-19?
