Families with babies and pre-school children can become isolated. They no longer live near family; friends have finished or haven't begun the pre-school years; or they haven't got money to participate in activities that extend their children. And being cooped up in a home with a restless toddler restricts mum's ability to keep positive.
Enter mainly music or mainly play. Both create a place of belonging for mothers or those caring for pre-school children during the day. They become not only a lifeline of friendship, but also of joy. The music, the story, the play, the coffee and cake all combine to make a time of fun, laughter and delight. Add to that all the educational and developmental learning and experience that goes on!
For some families, it's a contribution to the weekly budget. One group is serving toast before the session, concerned that families do not have breakfast resources. Another serves soup and rolls after the session to send families home with additional nourishment.
No wonder families say, 'mainly music and mainly play are the highlight of my week!'
