Featuring Mama Dottie’s Story

Earlier this month, our team completed one of our largest rescue missions to date. During our 2025 Community Intake, we brought 75 dogs to safety from a remote Saskatchewan community. Many arrived in urgent need of medical care, and none more so than Mama Dottie.

When community members found Dottie, she was lying in a field, pregnant, injured, and barely moving. Believing she had been hit by a vehicle or quad, th

ey gently carried her to safety and cared for her until our team arrived during the Community Intake on Sunday.

Upon our return to Saskatoon Sunday night, Dottie was rushed to the vet, where x-rays revealed a pelvic fracture and an ultrasound confirmed she was pregnant with 10 to 12 puppies. At just 53 days (+/- 3 days), her babies were likely too young to survive outside the womb, so our team planned a C-section as close to term as possible.

However, Mama Dottie had other plans.

Late Monday night, she began bleeding and was rushed back to emergency, where vets confirmed se was in labour. Exhausted, weak, and unable to push, an urgent C-section was performed to save her life and her babies. While three puppies sadly did not make it, eight tiny fighters entered the world, and we were beyond grateful to see them breathing.

Mama Dottie is now recovering at home with her pups. She is sore and tired, still unable to stand on her own, but showing the resilience that makes us believe she will pull through. Sadly, one of her pups passed the following night, leaving seven little miracles fighting by her side.

Between the emergency visits, C-section, hospitalization, and postnatal care, Dottie’s medical costs alone are estimated at approximately $5,000. Combined with dozens of other new intakes needing vaccinations, spay/neuters, and urgent treatments, our veterinary expenses skyrocketing.

Your donation today supports Mama Dottie, her pups, and all 75 dogs rescued through this year’s Community Intake. Every dollar helps us cover critical medical care, food, and safe shelter for these dogs who deserve a second chance.
