Dear Friends and Colleagues, I want to introduce you to Dani!
This lovely, smiley little one is celebrating his 3rd birthday—but he is not aware of it. Dani has a genetic variant in v-ATPase that causes developmental and epileptic encephalopathy, for which no treatments are available. Behind his beautiful smile and amazing energy is a child who never had a fair start in life, and as time passes, the gap between him and his peers grows larger. Dani is not able to socially interact or play with other children.
He lives in his own world and is curious, but even at this young age, segregation starts to happen. We are not able to communicate with him and help him understand the world—or even worse, help him understand how to stand up for himself or simply ask for help.
Due to the lack of options to help him, last year his parents started a foundation to change that for Dani and all the kids sharing the same condition. v-ATPase Alliance is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing biomedical research and developing effective treatments for v-ATPase disorders. Their research priorities include better defining this condition and its progression through its natural history, developing biomarkers, and generating cellular and animal models for testing therapeutic interventions.
Dani might not be able to recognize who his caregivers are or understand the world right now, but they are doing everything in their power to change that.
Your help can make a real difference!
Please consider donating to the v-ATPase Alliance to bring hope and potential treatments to children like Dani.
