Goal
More and more communities throughout the country are committing to converting food waste into compost in order to reduce the need for artificial fertilizers and to prevent the environmental problems that happen when food waste goes to landfills or into water treatment facilities.
This year, with the help of an Ashland Food Co-op Community Grant, Rogue Valley Food System Network is supporting the efforts of the Community Compost Coalition to set up a food scrap drop off service at the Medford Growers Market starting in the Spring of 2024. The food scraps will be given to local farms for expanding their composting activity.
We are currently raising funds in order to fully cover the cost of the food scrap drop off service for the entire Medford Growers Market season.
The project collaborators are so grateful for the community support we have received thus far on this journey. We are passionate and committed to increasing composting activity in this region. Your support of this important project will help our local farms, and turn the environmental problem of food waste into an environmental solution.
We would like to acknowledge the support and guidance we have received from Ashland Rotary Club, SOCAN, RV Growers Market, Ashland Climate Collaborative, Peace House, The Water League, Ashland Bellview Grange #759 and Southern Oregon Pachamama Alliance.
