Goal

The Little River Commons will be a space outside of capitalism for liberatory education, multiracial solidarity building, and land connection.

Land in Common and the Possibility Alliance came together to fundraise for the purchase of 66 acres of land in Belfast, Maine, in Penobscot territory. The land is home to beautiful, mature pine forests, the clear, spring-fed waters of the Little River, and a building with gathering space, a craft studio, and a classroom. And we did it, thanks to the incredible support of hundreds of grassroots donors. The land will be purchased in Sept 2024, and permanently decommodified.

Now, we seek community support to raise $133k, which will help us cover our closing costs, and pay off $125k of remaining debt on the land. Any donation from $5 to $5000 helps us secure a thriving future on this land, and we are so grateful to you for helping bring this vision to life!

Land in Common, a multiracial community land trust, will hold the land. Our work centers on building land justice through land decommodification, Indigenous land return, and restoring land connection with and for Black, brown, and poor and working class people in Wabanakik/Maine.

Land in Common's vision for the land is a space of joint stewardship, multiracial solidarity, and community building. The land will support Wabanaki lifeways, land connection, forestry, and cultural harvest. The project is led by Land in Common Co-Director Autumn Jade Fitch, a Passamaquoddy community organizer with a deep commitment to decolonization. The land will also be a shared space for Black and brown-led organizations to gather, collaborate, host events, and build relationships. The land will be a space to catalyze multiracial power building, grounded in reciprocity with the land.
