Why We Need This

Georgia’s summer heat and drought conditions make clean water more important than ever.

Pigs do not sweat like humans do, so they rely on water, shade, and wallows to regulate their body temperature. Without reliable access to clean water, they are at risk of dehydration, heat stress, and illness.

The Problem

Many of our pigs are already using automatic drinking posts, which help conserve water and keep water cleaner.

But many of our smaller pigs are still too short to reach them.

That means they still rely on bowls and troughs that are often:

• Spilled
• Dumped to clean
• Refilled multiple times
• Wasting water
• Creating mud and erosion in their habitats

The Solution

We need to build sturdy wooden platforms around the drinking posts.

These platforms will allow pigs of all sizes — smaller pigs, seniors, and larger pigs — to safely and comfortably access the automatic waterers.

What We’re Raising

We are raising $1,600 to purchase:

2 bundles of pressure-treated 2x6 boards (128 boards total)

These boards will be used to build durable water station platforms throughout our pig areas. 
They will also be used to build platform ramps to help our seniors and shorter legged pigs get onto the platforms with ease.
This covers the cost of materials.
The platforms & ramps will be built 100% by unpaid volunteers with our heart for the pigs at Outsiders.
