Coeliac UK is amazing. The guidance and support I received when first diagnosed was a massive help when finding out all the dos and don'ts. Keep up the good work 👏.

The rising cost of living is affecting all strata's of society. Those living on the bare minimum are finding feeding their families a huge struggle. No attention is given to individuals and families who are seriously affected by Coeliac disease, some like myself, in families with multiple members suffering from the disease are struggling much more due to the high cost of gluten free foods. The government needs to recognise the importance and seriousness of this medical problem. They fail to realise that because what they consider to be “normal food” that all in society are in the “same boat”. But what needs to be considered is that society’s view of “normal food” is for coeliacs a source of severe ill health. Government and indeed many in the medical profession do not give this condition the seriousness that it needs, as I have experienced on many occasions myself. For children who are in the growing phase food is extremely important to their present and their future health. It is false economy to deny those with coeliac disease access to cheaper affordable gluten-free food. Provision of essential gluten free food items on prescription to growing children and those who are most vulnerable would in the long term be cost effective. If these vulnerable individuals are not cared for now then in the future their health care needs will become more complex and more expensive to the health service. The government needs to wake up to the long-term benefits of looking after people with this disease now and not to allow them to become sufferers of many diseases related to coeliac disease in the future.

My sister in law, Doreen, passed away on 4th December. 24 years ago she was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. She was a monthly contributor to your Society and therefore her family have suggested to family/friends to make a donation in her memory. Doreen was a lovely lady - family, friend and someone who always had time for others. X
