Goal
They hide behind their mother, wondering who it will be coming through the door.
The angst turns to excitement when these little ones realise it's not a guard, but instead, the mainly music Session Facilitator. She comes with bubbles. She comes to say, "You jump so well. You are a wonderful helper. I can see your arms moving and feet stomping - WOW!"
This is what happens in a women's prison where mums reside with their little one.
This is what happens in rehabilitation centres where mums are receiving help.
When mainly music happens, these little ones get the benefit of a mum who is engaged and spending time just with them. Mum does this at other times; but this is a moment of complete focus. And it's fun. Bubbles, a Lycra panel to run under, a shaker to move to the music. Mum laughs. Other babies and children giggle.
mainly music sessions create a space quite unlike anything else happening in the residential facility. But to make this happen, funds are required to support the Session Facilitator in the efforts they go to as they tailor the learning to match the needs of those in the session.
