Chicago Street Medicine
In Chicago, a city we call home, there are more than 5,000 people living in a state of homelessness. Chicago Street Medicine, a 501(c)3, provides direct medical services by medically trained professionals to patients affected by homelessness throughout our community. CSM strives to maximize health for people affected by homelessness in Chicago through elimination of barriers, direct health services, and continuity across health systems in collaboration with community stakeholders. CSM aims to expand skills and knowledge to raise informed consciousness about the clinical and structural issues surrounding homelessness. CSM works to develop evidence to inform and transform healthcare practices to eliminate health disparities, and CSM seeks to change healthcare systems, policies, and perceptions in collaboration with people experiencing homelessness.
CSM is proud to support several chapters throughout the city, which facilitate the work of medical school students who conduct weekly “runs.” During these medical runs, medical students visit the unhoused on the streets and through pop-up clinics to ensure all patients have access to the medical care they need and deserve. Chicago Street Medicine’s patient population disproportionately suffers from acute and chronic illnesses, mental illness, and trauma, and lacks adequate access to primary care providers. CSM provides treatment, medication, and resources while supporting our patients on their journey to stable housing.
All CSM Board members and medically trained volunteers are unpaid.
Funds are not earmarked and donation levels are intended to reflect the work of CMS.
100% of donations go directly to supporting the patients CSM volunteers serve.
