Chicago People's Rights Collaborative

The Chicago People’s Rights Collaborative (CPRC) provides free forensic medical and mental health evaluations for people seeking asylum, clemency or compassionate release, including people held in immigration detention. Our mission is to bridge medicine and law to advance human rights and access to justice.

Working alongside physicians, mental health professionals, attorneys and community partners, we document the physical and psychological effects of trauma and turn them into evidence that strengthens our clients' cases for protection. We also train the next generation of clinicians through supervised, hands-on casework in trauma-informed evaluation, forensic documentation and advocacy. Most medical schools teach little or none of this.

Our work is grounded in the needs of the communities we serve. We believe everyone harmed by the forces that threaten health, freedom and survival deserves to be heard, believed and protected.
