OKAN Savanna Nature & Visitor Center Fundraiser

The Community Development Corporation of PHP (CDC) is committed to meaningful community transformation. As a community-based nonprofit organization, our strength, capacity, and long-term sustainability depend on the generosity of supporters like you. 

This land in Pembroke Township is one of the most ecologically rich and culturally significant Black rural communities in the Midwest. It holds rare savanna ecosystems, deep agricultural traditions, and generations of families who chose land, freedom, and self-determination. But like many places like it, it has also faced disinvestment, land loss, and erasure. So, the time is now to write a new story that centers on something different. Restoration. 

We are building the OKAN Savanna Nature & Visitor Center—a place where land, culture, ecology, and community come back into relationship.

This nature center will be:

• A nature and visitor center rooted in Black land stewardship
• A living classroom for youth, farmers, and environmental leaders
• A hub for conservation, workforce training, and eco-tourism
• And a protected savanna ecosystem, restored for future generations

We are asking you to become founding supporters of the OKAN Savanna. We are building a circle of early investors who understand that early dollars are the most powerful dollars—because they unlock everything else. If you are not in a position to make a one-time donation, consider a smaller monthly donation.

Additionally, we are looking to identify a small group of lead donors who are interested in making larger early commitments—$25,000 and above to help us anchor this campaign and leverage foundation and public funding.  If that's you, we would love to speak with you directly.
