ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS
A trip to North Sumatra and an encounter with vulnerable families living in derelict buildings by one of our Founders Sue Delaney, led to developing sustainable community led programs in education and conservation that will make an ongoing and real difference now and for future generations.
We would love you to help CareSumatra set up English schools for the children and empowering women and youth through our skills and work experience program.
CareSumatra’s goals for the next 12 months are:
1. Empowering women and young people through our training program, giving them valuable skills and knowledge in conservation, reforestation, hospitality, the English language and computer skills
2. Continue to support our 3 free English classes and 6 teachers salaries at $50 a month (Jungle School approx 30 kids and 2 teachers, Sunshine Class approx 40 kids and 2 teachers and Dream Class 2 teachers and approx 30 kids)
3. Build toilet and wash blocks for families in remote subsistence communities, that do not have water connected or toilets in their homes
4. Community conservation programs that provide meaningful sustainable employment opportunities for the local people in conservation, plastic recycling community program and agroforestry. These community led programs aim to provide people with knowledge on sustainable practices and educate local communities explaining the benefits of conservation, recycling, agro-forestry. Giving people alternative sustainable employment opportunities to palm oil, ensuring local communities can coexist in harmony with the environment they live in.
By empowering forest fringe communities, they will in turn better understand, value and protect their forest homes and the biodiversity that occurs in this fragile ecosystem,
