Goal
Why did you start your project?
When the Corona pandemic hit Bali tremendously, I first just wanted to help a friend out – until the charity behind became part of my life. Bali was and is still suffering immensely of the visitor limitations due to the pandemic. Giving something back to the locals of the country I fell in love with, especially when they are struggling, feels more than right to me. It feels like a purpose, if not yet like a duty, based on my altruistic values to support people in need – as simple as it sounds: helping makes me happy and even defines my purpose in life.
How would you explain a normal day in your life? (inside the project)
My charity is a partner project with a Balinese head of village, a friend of mine. He's buying all the food supplies, and his entire family helps with packaging the care packages. I'm responsible for raising money (via marketing), technical stuff, bookkeeping, communication and organization. We're always in close contact, and regularly discuss better options for the care package itself (e.g. more sustainable products).Once a month we're distributing in person the available care packages to selected families in need.
What is the biggest achievement until now, inside your project?
First, we thought the more we help the better. Obviously true, but after 1 year the donations lessened, tho the demand was still high. We first thought, if we can't meet the actual demand, we were failing. Thus, we decided to not evaluate on quantity anymore – 1 is more than zero. We help where we can, that's our WHY and the biggest accomplishment for our own appreciation as the ones in charge. The biggest achievement for the charity is that it started out as a spontaneous support due to the impacts of the pandemic on a country that relies on tourism by 85 % – and developed to a reliable and continuous support for people in need. They count on us, doesn't matter if we help a lot or just a little.
Who are the people behind your project and what you can tell about them?
It's Komang's family and I who are the people behind the charity. Komang is a Balinese who lost his hospitality business due to the pandemic, nonetheless wanted to help his village wherever he could. I fell in love with Bali over 3 years ago, and am grateful for being able to call it my second home. Most important: We trust each other and can fully rely on each other anytime.
What are you going to do, if you receive 10.000 Dollars for your project?
To be honest, this is an unbelievably huge amount of money, we couldn't handle without preparation, but we're on it! By receiving this big donation, we'll be able to help in total 300 families to survive an entire month. We'll split the donations to 6 months to give each month 50 families an opportunity to survive better throughout the still ongoing pandemic and closure of Bali.
If you could have ONE wish in life, what would it be? Share your heart, mind & love with us.
If I'd have ONE wish in my life, I'd want people to CARE more. Life's not about getting rich or accomplishing something business-wise that is meeting societal expectations. Life's is about caring and making people happy. That said, sharing is caring – and smiling BECAUSE somebody cares makes you happy. Try it ;-)
