Wishes for Water Foundation is a student-led nonprofit founded in 2023 to provide sustainable and clean water sources for schools in the rural Hurungwe School District of Zimbabwe. In many of these communities, students spend hours each day walking long distances to collect water before they can attend class. This limits learning time, affects health, and places an especially heavy burden on girls.

During my time in Zimbabwe, I saw how deeply water access shapes daily life. I met students who were bright, eager to learn, and full of potential, yet often had to leave class to gather water for their families. It was not a lack of motivation or ability that interrupted their education. It was simply the distance to water. That reality is what stayed with me. It reminded me that education is not only about books or classrooms. It begins with having the basic needs met so learning is even possible.

Our work centers on sustainability, education, and collaboration. We partner with local organizations and school leaders to identify needs, plan long-term solutions, and ensure that each water source supports the community for years to come. By bringing reliable water access directly to schools, students are able to remain in the classroom, focus on their education, and learn in a safer and healthier environment. Clean water supports stronger attendance, improves nutrition, and strengthens the foundation for community growth and opportunity.
