Cameron Jacobs and Chris Skelley's Fundraiser!
We're raising money to provide a young person with a scholarship to join The True Athlete Project's Global Mentoring Program, so that they can benefit just like we have! It would mean so much to us if you would consider donating.
Who Are We?
Cameron is a long-distance runner, and Chris is a GB judo player. We are in our second year of mentoring together :) We meet regularly to explore and take-on the challenges of sport and life! Here's some more information about TAP and about the mentoring program we are raising scholarships for.
What is The True Athlete Project (TAP)?
TAP aims to build a more compassionate world through sport. They design and deliver a range of creative, mindfulness-based programmes for athletes and coaches at all levels of sport - from primary school children to Olympians and Parlaympians.
Our Fundraiser:
On Sunday 17th July I am going to run The Great Stones Way with my mum, approximately 75km from Salisbury to Swindon, to raise money for the True Athlete Project. As I run, my mentor Chris Skelley, Paralympic judo gold medallist, will be cycling until we eventually meet in Swindon.
I have been fortunate to have been given a scholarship through the True Athlete Project (TAP) for the last 2 years, which pairs up young sportspeople with current or former international athletes, many of them Olympians or Paralympians. The mentor scheme is aimed at helping young athletes with the mental and emotional sides of their sport, to help them learn about resilience and overcoming challenges.
I have Asperger's Syndrome, Tourette's syndrome, ADHD and a condition that requires me to give myself daily injections. People think my autism and ADHD are disabilities and barriers, but when it comes to running, I feel like they give me a super-power that enables me to just keep going.
In July 2020 I ran the 58 kilometre length of the Avon Valley Path from Salisbury to Christchurch, to raise £1,500 for Salisbury Area Young Musicians.
I hope to encourage others with hidden disabilities that they can achieve great things through sport. Thank you in advance for your support of my challenge.
Target Amount: £950 (the cost of 1 full scholarship)! If we raise a full scholarship, we will get to name our scholarship for the young person / young people we're supporting through your donations (such as "The Jacobs-Skelley Scholarship").
