The Good Black Birth Initiative is a collaborative research project focused on the construction of systems that protect mothers and their children. Byrd Barr Place is partnered with Anti Racism Center for Health (ARCH) housed at the University of Washington, and a collective of Black birth workers, perinatal health organizations and policymakers working together to implement a WA state Black Birthing Bill of Rights. Byrd Barr Place has not historically participated in health equity work, so we called in the experts who are immersed in the call for birth equity for all. Byrd Barr Place serves as container, meeting site, and primary funder to cultivate this work. All proceeds generated from this campaign will go towards the compensation and care of our research and thought partners. We have a goal of $260,000; this will ensure the work continues through the end of 2026. We ask that you make a contribution to ensuring a safe and healthy start for all future birthing people and their children right here in Washington state.
