Help Build a Coworking Space at Burn Village – A Hub for Burners in Portugal
Burn Village is a new community project in eastern Portugal, located on off-grid rural land. The grand vision is to create a welcoming hub and a home for the Burning Man community, where Burners can stay for long or short periods, and live with other Burners based on Burning Man’s 10 Principles. Think of a never-ending, slow-burning (no pun intended), down-to-earth Playa.
Following the principles of Decommodification, Communal Effort, and Participation, Burn Village is a non-profit, non-commercial initiative that relies solely on the contributions and active participation of the Burn community.
Now, we invite you to be part of a pivotal project: building a coworking space, a major step forward in the evolution of Burn Village.
Why a Coworking Space Matters
Up until now, the work at Burn Village has focused on getting basic off-grid infrastructure in check: power, water, shade, toilets, showers, and a communal kitchen. These essentials have enabled Burners to visit and stay, but mostly for short periods.
Now, it’s time to take the village to the next level by adding a coworking space. This wooden cabin will be equipped with electricity, internet, and sitting stations, enabling Burners to work remotely while taking part in Burn Village life.
This addition will:
- Allow Burners to join for extended periods while maintaining their work routines and income streams.
- Keep the village active and running year-round.
- Be a major step toward making Burn Village a permanent, thriving home for burners.
How Your Contributions Will Be Used
- Prefab Wooden Cabin (13.4 sqm/19 sqm): €4,500/€5,300
- Wooden Foundation Frame and Flooring (eco-friendly, no cement): €1,400
- Insulation, Wood Paint, Tools, and Furniture: €1,000
- Solar Power System: €1,200
- Air Conditioner: €600
Fundraising Milestones
Each milestone upgrades the coworking space:
- Milestone 1: Build a basic 13.4 sqm wooden cabin.
- Milestone 2: Install an off-grid solar power system.
- Milestone 3: Expand the cabin to 19 sqm for additional workstations.
- Milestone 4: Add an AC system (essential for the hot season).
Building Event
Following the spirit of the Playa, construction will be a communal effort.
A "Build & Burn" week-long event will take place in May, where volunteers are invited to come together and build the coworking space.
We encourage you to join the event and participate in the building. It’s a great opportunity to come see the village, and to connect with other burners from Portugal and abroad - all in an atmosphere of a small burn event.
No construction experience is needed—just bring your energy and enthusiasm!
Link will be published on the Facebook group.
