Why did you say “yes” when asked to be a buzzee?
I believe we are all called to make our communities a better place. I am currently blessed with good health, but I never want to take that for granted because I have seen how quickly that can change. For that reason, I want to help others with their battles. The QMG Foundation contributes to helping families with these battles every day in ways that are very meaningful to patients and their families, at a time when they need love and compassion most.
Who are you doing this for/in honor of?
My mother in law, Carol Chandler, died in 2011 from a combination of breast and lung cancer. She didn’t discover the disease until it was too late. I’ll never forget the struggle she went through and the strain it put on our family, due to the helpless feeling that we all experienced as she suffered with no treatment available. For that reason, I want to honor her and all of those battling this terrible disease.
Why is it important for our community to support patients going through treatment?
I love the saying: “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”
Everything is easier to endure when you know that somebody cares. If a simple gesture like shaving my hair lets somebody who is suffering know that I care, and I can get others to support the same cause, then it’s worth doing.
