Goal

Only a year ago, for my 26th birthday, I decided to challenge myself out of the mundane. I wanted to face a challenge—something I didn’t think I was capable of, something that scared me. That's when I made the bold decision to run my first marathon.

It’s true what they say, the first mile is the hardest. I was very unconditioned and most runs did not surpass three or four miles. With little and inconsistent training, I set out to conquer the 26.2 miles of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. I finished my first marathon at 3:57:00. Crossing that finish line, I realized, I am capable of far more than I thought.

Little did I know, that moment would kickstart an incredible year. After joining Buena Tierra Run Club, I started signing up for 5ks, half marathons, and marathons. Along the way, I reached new heights I never thought possible, setting personal records in every race— including slashing nearly 30 minutes off my marathon time. It also gave me the confidence to accept a last minute invite to a 90-mile relay from Chicago to Milwaukee, just 24 hours before it began. I didn’t think I’d even finish, but together, we ran 90 miles in 13 hours and 41 minutes—no sleep for over 30 hours. It was, without question, the greatest race I’ve ever run.

New Challenges Ahead

The REACH CHI to MKE race has earned us an invitation to one of the most challenging, invite-only races in the country. Starting in Los Angeles, we’ll run through the city, across Death Valley, and into Las Vegas—covering an estimated 340 miles in just 48 hours. With no guides, spectators, or security, it’s just us, the road, and the desert.
