Goal

In December of 2023, I finished grad school and staying true to myself, I thought what is my next challenge? Running a marathon had always been on my bucket list and the thought of it was scary because the most I had ever ran was 5 miles. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of running from a previous leg injury. Despite that and through some connections, I started following an instagram account Buena Tierra Run Club (BTRC). In January 2024, I began running with BTRC to prepare for the Ordinary Freaks marathon relay run at the Petitt’s Indoor Track. To my surprise, I was partnered with Carter and Patrick, two of the four founders of BTRC. With the help of my teammates, Gabi, Patrick and Carter, I not only ran more than 5 miles, I finished my first relay run! From there I was hooked! I signed up and completed my first half-marathon (13.1 miles) in April 2024. Five months later, I checked off a long standing bucket list item after running the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. I had a new found respect for not only running but also for my body that demonstrated my resilience and grit.

All while training for the marathon, I also jumped at participating in more amazing relay runs. I participated in the ON Squad Race in Chicago and REACH, running 90 miles from Chicago to Milwaukee. With these experiences, I am now 1 of 12 runners who will be representing Buena Tierra Run Club in The Speed Project(TSP).

Our team will run 340 miles from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, representing a community and city that is often overlooked but never underestimated. This journey is more than just a race—it's a bold statement that we, too, are capable of overcoming challenges and achieving greatness. We hope to inspire others to take that first step, push beyond their limits, and realize that we can all do hard things, together!

With that said, please consider supporting our BTRC x TSP team, as we take on this new challenge. The donations will go towards funding runners and support crew’s travel and lodging expenses. Every bit helps and is greatly appreciated.

I can’t wait to put Milwaukee on the map and share this experience with you all!!!
