Bringing Hope Back Home's Scholarship Fund
Bringing Hope Back Home is a student-led organization that advocates for equity and accessibility in education. In 2017, founder and Detroit Public Schools District alum, Kemi Dauda wanted to make a positive impact in the Detroit community and bridge the massive education gap between public schools and their higher achieving counterparts. She wanted to provide the support that she wished she was given in high school.
Due to the pandemic, our yearly in-person summer college prep workshops had to be cancelled, but we still wanted to create a way to support students virtually. Last September, we launched our monthly themed webinar series to aid students with their college application journey. Beyond that, we provided on-on-one appointments for students to meet with Kemi to discuss everything from college essays to scholarships. This year, we want to take a step further and support our students after high school through a scholarship fund.
Bringing Hope Back Home is consistently growing. We have people from all over the United States and sometimes outside the country show up to our webinars. As participation grows, we need to raise additional funds to make sure we can support this growth in participation. In 2019, we received a $9000 grant which enabled us to move from a one day workshop to a week-long workshop series and officially establish. This year, we want to raise $10,000 so we can fund five high school seniors who will go on to college.
