Bret Harte COVID-19 emergency campaign
We hope everyone is safe and healthy, and would like to express our sincere appreciation to the medical professionals, the grocery store employees, the delivery workers, and many other essential workers and volunteers for your tireless work.
CPS has officially moved to remote learning as of April 13th, and announced that 100,000 devices would be delivered to students who do not have one at home. This number is far less than the actual need, and Bret Harte will not receive any devices from CPS. Despite this, our students need a device in order to access virtual classrooms at home. Bret Harte is "loaning" out devices that belong to the school, but CPS will not replace or fix any loaned devices that are not returned or damaged. We estimate that 80% of the 80 loaned devices will need to be replaced or repaired by Bret Harte school. This will add up to about $14,000.
In order to respond to students’ and families' needs, Friends of Bret Harte Elementary School (FoBHE) is launching the Bret Harte COVID emergency campaign. In addition to funding for technology that will ensure all students are able to keep learning, FoBHE is also hoping to support students and families who are struggling in this emergency, not only academically but also emotionally and financially. Each classroom and Special Education teacher are reaching out to families to locate those who need support and resources, such as pencils, paper, art supplies, books, cleaning supplies, etc.
Please consider making a donation to support our neighborhood school. As the school is closed, please do not send a check to the school, and instead use this online donation link. In case you prefer a check, or if you have any in-kind donations, please reach out to us at [email protected]. Thank you very much.
