Goal
United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) may be going on strike as early as Monday, Feb. 9th.
UESF has been fighting for a new contract since March 2025. Teachers are asking for a more balanced work load for special education instructors, health care for dependents, fair pay for their labor, sanctuary protections against ICE on school grounds. They’ve been met with unwillingness from SFUSD. Worker power is strong, and these teachers can win! But they will need community support as their fight for better working conditions and safer, better schools for all of their students reaches this pivotal moment.
One concern teachers have as they approach a strike is how to continue to provide breakfast and lunch to school families who rely on SFUSD nutritional services. All SFUSD students currently have access to one free breakfast and one free lunch at school. Many low-income students and their families depend on school meals.
Teachers want to ensure these students continue to be fed and want to avoid the school district using the issue as a wedge between the striking teachers and the community. One way that the school district may try to turn public opinion against the teachers and make the strike fail is by claiming that the strike hurts students.
To support teachers and students DSA is launching a Bread for Ed campaign. Volunteers will be making and delivering meals to students and people on the picket lines. We need your help!
