boom saloon is a non-profit, global media movement to democratise creativity for good, driven by our international members. We explore the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals through the lens of creativity, across our print publications, online features, newsletters and events. Profits from these support a series of community projects which use creativity to inspire and empower those facing challenges.

Why become a member?

boom saloon membership directly enables the community projects that sit at the heart of all that we do. To date, these have included performance pieces, fashion collections and publications created and produced in collaboration with extraordinary talents facing challenges of substance abuse, homelessness, inequality and forcible displacement. Our current community project works to rewrite the story of dementia, amplifying lived experience to increase empathy and understanding in a largely unaware society. Our members directly enable this work for just £7.99/ month and join a movement of global change makers shaping a more sustainable future for all. Our work often addresses challenges which should be better supported by the state, yet we receive no public funds or state aid. As such, for this vital work to continue we are reliant upon the support of our members.

To directly fund our community projects…

Our previous projects have tackled challenges as complex and impenetrable as substance abuse, homelessness, inequality and forcible displacement. Now, our biggest project to date focuses on rewriting the story of dementia. Why? 1 in 2 of us will be directly affected by dementia in our lifetimes; it is currently the leading cause of death in the UK. In spite of this, the general public are largely unaware of the dementia journey and how this can look for an individual following diagnosis. Many people with dementia feel their voice is taken from them and their true lived experience is rarely recognised or appreciated amidst a plethora of sensationalised headlines, medical jargon or scaremongering. Within this landscape, we collaborate with people with dementia and, together, play with words to give voice to their experience. We then share these words across our print publications, online features, newsletters and events – centring lived experience and using this to increase empathy and understanding in wider society.
