boom saloon membership: Directly fund our work to democratise creativity for good and enjoy a series of membership benefits in thanks

boom saloon is an independent publisher dedicated to democratising creativity for good. We publish books and magazines, both in-house and for clients, which explore the connection between the arts and social change. Profits from these fund further publications, made in collaboration with people facing complex personal challenges such as substance abuse, homelessness, forcible displacement and dementia.

Why become a member?

Our work often addresses issues which should be better supported by the state, yet we receive no continuous public funds or state aid. As such, for this vital work to continue we are reliant upon the support of an international collective of members, supporters and donors who enjoy a series of discounts, opportunities and events in thanks for their support. Most importantly, they make it possible for us to publish voices too often silenced and use paper and ink as a circular model for change. To find out more about what our members make possible, learn about the impact of our work here.

To directly fund our community projects…

Our previous projects have tackled challenges as complex and impenetrable as substance abuse, homelessness, inequality and forcible displacement. Now, our biggest project to date focuses on rewriting the story of dementia. Why? 1 in 2 of us will be directly affected by dementia in our lifetimes; it is currently the leading cause of death in the UK. In spite of this, the general public are largely unaware of the dementia journey and how this can look for an individual following diagnosis. Many people with dementia feel their voice is taken from them and their true lived experience is rarely recognised or appreciated amidst a plethora of sensationalised headlines, medical jargon or scaremongering. Within this landscape, we collaborate with people with dementia and, together, play with words to give voice to their experience. We then share these words across our print publications, online features, newsletters and events – centring lived experience and using this to increase empathy and understanding in wider society.
