Goal
This fall, I'll be attempting a new FKT (Fastest Known Time) of the Double SCAR Traverse— a 144 mile, out-and-back run that cuts straight through the heart of Great Smoky National Park. The double SCAR, short for Smokies Challenge Adventure Run, is rarely attempted due to its distance and difficulty— over 36,000 ft. of total elevation gain.
But this run is about more than miles. In honor of the attempt, I'm calling on my community to raise funds for the Honnold Foundation— a nonprofit supporting solar energy projects around the world. Whether you're able to give $10, $100, or $10,000, every bit counts.
Why the Honnold Foundation?
I chose the Honnold Foundation because of its commitment to bettering the world environmentally and socially. The natural world brings me immense joy, and I want my posterity to be able to enjoy the same world that we take for granted. Climate change is the biggest long-term threat to our world, and we need to focus on mitigating the catastrophic anthropogenic changes that are resulting from worldwide pollution. While solar energy may not be the perfect solution, it is a positive step in the right direction. By supporting the Honnold Foundation, we can all take this next step together in a pledge to reduce our carbon footprint.
The Honnold Foundation's work extends beyond environmental conservation. By providing low-income communities with access to clean energy, their work creates a more equitable world for all. Growing up I never had to worry about keeping the lights on, or where my next meal would come from, but for millions of people across the world electricity is a luxury and food is scarce. I consider myself lucky to be born into a family that has the ability to provide for me. Coming from this position, I feel it is my responsibility to help those who were perhaps not given such commodities in life.
I believe that it is our responsibility to create a more equitable and just society— one where basic necessities like electricity and running water are recognized as a human right, and not a privilege. I aim to leave a lasting impact in this world, and I wish to leave a very simple legacy behind— that I always tried to be as equitable and fair as possible.
Change starts here, where the little things have big impacts. I have partnered with the Honnold Foundation to guarantee that the donations I receive will be invested into the ideas that I firmly believe in, so please join me on this journey. I call on my family, my friends, and my community to join me. My run may only take me across 144 miles, but its impact— OUR impact— will stretch around the world.

About the Honnold Foundation:
The Honnold Foundation supports solar energy access— solar everywhere, for everyone.
That means a donation to the Honnold Foundation could help a low-income family in Sacramento cut their energy bill in half, or pay for solar technician job training for a high schooler on the Navajo Nation. Or, your gift could help fund Puerto Rico’s first cooperatively managed, community-owned microgrid, pioneering a new way to access and control energy in communities around the world.
No matter who you are, we believe that energy should be clean, easy to access, and affordable. When you give a gift to the Honnold Foundation, you help us advance solar energy access worldwide.
