BMNSM COVID-19 Emergency Relief

This photo was taken on 02/27/2020, before Florida's stay-at-home and social distancing advisories had been put in place.

While I'm thrilled that the Shell Museum is open again, financially we’re still struggling.

It’s important that visitors learn about conserving the ocean and its amazing creatures. That means that I need to keep our excellent staff employed and hundreds of animals healthy and well-cared for. Environmental education can’t stop for a pandemic, so we need your help.

The staff is now looking at furloughs (beginning with me taking a 20% reduction). The Museum depends upon summer tourism which is still very slow.  Our daily numbers are too low to be sustainable. And, after the summer visitor season, the autumn is a long, slow drain on our budget even in a normal year. Throw in the possibility of a hurricane, and this year is positively frightening.

If you are able, a gift right now will help us make it through this tough patch and ensure that the Museum is able to continue to provide the quality experience you expect.

Next week, I have to report to the board on our financial situation. Can you please make that update a positive one? Your gift can help close the gap.

Wishing you good health,

Dorrie Hipschman

Executive Director
