Goal
Black Mountain College Yearbook will be a digital repository project, created under Visual Archives Co. and in collaboration with Western Regional Archives, which aims to provide access to archives and information about the individuals involved in Black Mountain College.
Black Mountain College (BMC) was an experimental, liberal arts college in Black Mountain, North Carolina, open from 1933 to 1957. BMC was an educational community that held art in the heart of its curriculum. Aside from the artists that were involved with the college, the students that went on to become well-known architects, or musicians that performed at the summer music institutes, the bulk of the individuals that attended BMC, or worked as staff in the kitchen or farm, are largely unknown. BMC Yearbook aims to share histories of these lesser known individuals.
Visual Archives Co. creates digital products for non-profits that encourage accessibility, community participation, and public access to community archives and histories.
