Birthland Wellness Center

The United States is facing a significant maternal health crisis. According to recent studies, the United States has one of the highest maternal mortality rates among developed countries, and the rate has been increasing in recent years. Many factors contribute to this crisis, including lack of access to high-quality and affordable prenatal care, and systemic racial and economic disparities in healthcare. Black women and indigenous women are disproportionately affected by the US maternal health crises, with death rates that are three to four times higher than those of white women.

More recently the medical community is awakening to the realities of how racism is a contributing factor to health disparities. There is increased awareness of the cumulative impact that social and economic stressors have on maternal health. It's important to recognize the impact of racism and discrimination on maternal health and to work towards creating a more equitable and supportive environment for all mothers and families. This work should include expanding innovative approaches to maternity care models, addressing structural inequalities, and promoting cultural competency and sensitivity in healthcare providers.

The Birthland Wellness Center will be a one-stop perinatal resource hub and birth site in the Oakland Bay Area. The center will be a pregnancy resource hub where clinical, holistic wellness, and educational services will be available to all through a diverse community of practitioners. The Birthland model prioritizes financially accessible birth options, culturally relevant and congruent care, and provider sustainability.
