Goal
Wood Duck Would Bird
Our team will be birding from a back deck facing the beautiful Lake Audubon in Reston. The wealth of bird species we witness will be a testament to Kelly's efforts to make her yard a wildlife sanctuary!
Birding is a way to be present, in the moment. Supporting organizations like NVBA is important to me because they build a community of nature-lovers working to preserve and improve habitats for birds so that everyone can enjoy them. If a bird has given you joy this year, consider making a small gift in their honor. The Wood Ducklings thank you.
We will be doing our big morning on May 1, 2025 and competing for the Backyard Birdathon prize.
Tina works for the Bird Alliance, Kelly and Mike are friends, retired Wildlife Biologists and residents of Lake Audubon, and Aditi recently graduated with a degree in Global Environments and Sustainability from UVA.
Big Day Report-Out: We saw 24 bird species over 5 hours, from 9-12pm and 6-8pm. Special non-bird honorable mention goes to the mother fox and her four cubs that played on a lawn across the lake from us. We moved around the yard and found that wherever the five of us were, the birds moved to the other side of the house! A big thanks to all who donated in honor of our team.

The Birdathon raises funds to support outdoor education, citizen science, habitat conservation and programs to encourage people to plant native plants and protect native wildlife. Birdathon also helps ornithologists better understand spring migration by reporting sightings through eBird, an online database of bird observations run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Northern Virginia Bird Alliance is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our federal tax ID number is 51-0246325.
