Birding with Purpose
This team was formed by a local group of avid hikers (Black Women Hiking the DMV) who value open space, trails, and wildlife habitat protection. We embrace the idea that birding can happen anywhere, even on a hike or Sunday stroll. Join us as we help to raise awareness of the importance of birds in our ecosystem and highlight that birding is fun and is for everyone. This is our first time participating in this effort and look forward to your support. Your donation can help further local efforts to make the professional field of study and sport of birding more diverse and inclusive and spark enthusiasm for beginners.
Like a walk-a-thon, participants collect pledges from friends and family via their team page. Then they record how many species they can identify during any 24-hour period between April 19 and May 18.
Birdathon helps NVBA to support outdoor education, citizen science, habitat conservation and programs to encourage people to plant native plants and protect native wildlife. Birdathon also helps ornithologists better understand spring migration by reporting sightings through eBird, an online database of bird observations run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Thank you for your support!
