Goal
The Three Towhees
This team was formerly known as "The Five Beaks" and we are honoring the memory of Louise's late husband, Bart, a disabled USAF veteran who passed in 2024. He very much enjoyed this event and enthusiastically participated from his wheelchair. He became quite a good birder by ear as holding binoculars wasn't possible for him as a paraplegic. We loved this event and its support to the NVBA.
The team members for 2025 include Louise's son Sean and daughter-in-law Rachel who participated last year. Our new team name reflects Louise's childhood memory of being asked by her mother 'What is that pretty bird scratching in the leaves?" A quick response by 10 yr-old Louise "Oh that's a Rufous-sided Towhee" amazed her mom and it was 'their bird' for ever after with birthday cards, and gifts with the Eastern Towhee's image. We both loved the song "Drink Drink Your Tea" and still remains as one of Louise's favorite birds and a fond reminder of her mother's enthusiastic support of her hobby.
Birdathon is a wonderful way to support NVBA who I witness everyday doing great service to our community of nature-lovers, wildlife habitat and education. Bird watching has brought personal pleasure over the years to our team. Who doesn't get excited over the first visits of a hummingbird, or a good look at a migratory warbler! Everyone can enjoy and support this very worthwhile campaign and even consider creating your own team. Please consider making a donation to our team. We thank you! We have a mid-May date in mind for our big birding day and hope to exceed our bird species count of 62 from last year!
Louise works for the Bird Alliance, her son Sean works for Excelity and daughter-in-law Rachel works for Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. All are enthusiastic bird watchers and nature-lovers. We have a team song - Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and The Wailers. "Don't Worry - Be Happy"
