Goal
The Avian Avengers
The Avian Avengers were formed by Ajani, an Arlington Regional Master Naturalist (ARMN) training cohort leader and team captain, along with three fellow Spring 2025 ARMN trainees Alisa Wong, Kathleen Trainor, Sohan Tamang. We also added another amazing birder Frances O'Malley.
While new to birding, Ajani brings a photographer’s eye to the field, using the camera to observe and connect more deeply with nature. Birding has become a grounding and joyful experience—and we’re excited to share that journey together during Birdathon 2025.
One of Ajani's team’s goals is to raise awareness for Black Birders Week, which will be May 25 - May 31. #BlackBirdersWeek is a bold and unapologetic reclamation of the Black community’s role in environmental spaces—a powerful celebration of our enduring connection to the earth and a resounding call to dismantle the oppressive systems that have excluded us. EBird Lists:
Like a walk-a-thon, participants collect pledges from friends and family via their team page. Then they record how many species they can identify during any 24-hour period between April 19 and May 18.
Birdathon helps NVBA to support outdoor education, citizen science, habitat conservation and programs to encourage people to plant native plants and protect native wildlife. Birdathon also helps ornithologists better understand spring migration by reporting sightings through eBird, an online database of bird observations run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
