Goal
It is with deep gratitude that we approach the community and ask for your support during these challenging times in 2020. We thank all the participants and supporters for allowing us the opportunity to care for and serve our community giving us a deep sense of meaning. There is nothing more important for us! In 2021 we will enter into our 12th year serving the community by:
- Keeping bikes out of the landfill
- Offering mechanical expertise and used repair parts
- Providing inexpensive and efficient transportation
- Enriching the community with bicycle mechanic education workshops
- Hosting a community gathering space
- Providing bicycles to anyone regardless of their ability to pay
- Hosting in-school and after school programs
- Operating community tuning days
- And much more
Through it all, we have relied upon the financial and volunteer support of so many. We are deeply grateful!
2020 has been a time of turbulent and changing conditions for us all. Currently, individuals have found themselves out of work and businesses have had to close down. We are here in these challenges to help in any way we can. Often that comes as a free or inexpensive bike for transportation/recreation, a helpful repair, or an inexpensive service part. Sometimes it is an offer of a listening ear and an open heart. Due to the global pandemic, our role quickly shifted from a community gathering place to a quiet and productive bicycle service and sales center. During the pandemic, people flocked to the trails for exercise, shifted to bike commuting to save a bit of $$, and spent time outdoors with their families on two wheels. A few dedicated volunteers and Aaron worked as quickly as possible to help as many as we could. It sure was exciting!
As 2020 comes to a close we have we have an opportunity to refine what we do, and re-imagining what might be a fuller potential. Upon inspecting our books, this year we were able to nurture an income of around $22,000 with about $16,000 of that coming from our efforts of bike sales and service. Our expenses were around $18,000 and were mostly rent and payroll (rent is about $13,000 annually).
Our goal is to establish and maintain a minimum of $15,000 public support annually coming from individual and business donations. With these additional funds, we could increase our programming and benefit the community in more ways.
It has been a wonderful journey so far, and we look forward to seeing how our role in the community will continue to mature.
With love, kindness, and gratitude,
Aaron Taylor
