Join BetterBrave in Tackling Workplace Harassment & Discrimination
Hi there,
This past year, I took time to reflect and re-evaluate how BetterBrave could best make sustainable impact in tackling toxic workplace cultures. It’s been quite a year of experimentation and pivots, but I’m thrilled to be sharing with you where this journey has led BetterBrave and me.
Insight #1: There continues to be a lack of public knowledge on how to navigate workplace issues.
Statistics show that millions of employees (of all genders) across America will be impacted by harassment and discrimination at some point in their career. These experiences leave many feeling isolated and alone, yet there is a massive gap of knowledge and discourse on how to best navigate these issues. These resources are scarce whether you're an individual targeted by harassment or a colleague who wants to be a better ally in the workplace.
Insight #2: Knowledge is power.
By empowering individuals with the right knowledge and resources, they regain their power to make informed decisions on how to best navigate injustices at work and hold their companies accountable.
In July 2017, BetterBrave launched with two primary programs to address this gap: (1) a content library and (2) a national help center where we connect people to different partners in the legal, therapy, and employment space. With just $50K in funding (thanks to generous donors including Philanthropic Ventures Foundation, Modern Alliance, Gretchen Carlson, and a crowdfunding campaign) and a full-time staff of two people, we proudly empowered thousands of workers across America to understand their workplace rights and options for taking action.
Insight #3: Community is power.
We can't expect individuals who were targeted by harassment to tackle these issues alone. We need to work together as a community to stand in solidarity and support each other in this movement to rid toxicity from the workplace. That's why we're launching two new programs in 2020 dedicated to helping the workforce as a whole learn and collaborate in tackling workplace harassment and discrimination. (Keep an eye on your email inbox for more details about these two programs.)
Can't wait for what we have in store for the new year! Don't ever hesitate to reach out to me about any questions you have about BetterBrave.
All the best,
Tammy Cho
