When I grow up I want to be...a nurse

On Thanksgiving Day in 2022, we welcomed Benita into our Emmanuel family with open arms and grateful hearts. Her journey to us was marked by deep loss—her mother had passed away just months earlier, and she never knew her father. For a time, her aunt cared for her, but eventually she could no longer provide the support Benita needed. With love and concern, her aunt brought her to us, knowing that here she would find a safe home and a family who would love her as their own.

Benita is a lively and adventurous little girl, full of curiosity and energy. She loves to explore, race around the yard, and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. Her infectious laughter can brighten even the busiest days, and she has a way of lifting the mood of everyone around her. Since arriving, she has formed close, sister-like bonds with several girls her age, creating a circle of friendship and support that makes her feel right at home.

When Benita first came to us, we weren’t sure if she had ever attended school. It quickly became clear that she needed extra help with reading and writing, and we are working diligently to help her catch up. Her older “brothers” and “sisters” here have stepped in to tutor her, encourage her, and celebrate her progress. We pray that with their support—and the determination we already see in her—Benita will continue to grow in her studies and discover the joy of learning.

Spiritually, Benita is still new in her faith journey. She is beginning to learn about God’s love and what it means to have a personal relationship with Him. We are excited to walk alongside her as she builds this foundation, praying that she grows to trust Him with her whole heart. Benita may have faced loss and uncertainty early in life, but here at Emmanuel, she is surrounded by love, stability, and opportunity. We believe her future is bright, and we are thankful for the privilege of helping her grow into the young woman God created her to be.
