The Animal Reader is an independent animal news platform founded by journalist Prya Bisambhar. A few years ago, I started The Animal Reader because I wanted to bring visibility to important animal stories that rarely make it into mainstream media, even though they should.


We report on stories like live animal transport, captive wildlife, factory farming, animal testing, and conservation issues. The recent reporting on the Spiridon II showed how deeply these stories matter, and how much more work there is to do.


Your support helps me continue this work and grow our coverage. It allows me to dig deeper into investigations, collaborate with other journalists and experts, and keep animal stories in the news where they belong.

Deeply disturbed by the events that unfolded in the recent past. There is continuous abuse of elephants in Sri Lanka, particularly in the name of upholding archaic traditions. I live in kandy and witness it every year. As an animal lover it is heartbreaking. Please do what you can to raise awareness and convince the powers that be.
