A note from the Clerk of the BHFH Development Committee, Bobby Trice
Dear friends,
Beacon Hill Friends House first called to me as a place to grow and deepen when I came across the weekly MIDWEEK programming a few months into the pandemic. I saw Quakers and other seekers of all ages invited to experiment, co-create, and share their spiritual practices with others.
To me, that's the heart of what makes Beacon Hill Friends House special — that it's a place where people can gather, experiment, co-create, share, learn, grow, and deepen.
As the Clerk of BHFH's development committee, I'm proud to announce that all donations this holiday season will be matched dollar-for-dollar (up to $12,000).
As a young adult myself, the model of MIDWEEK — creating a container for people to share parts of themselves, to be deeply known and to know others deeply — inspired me and helped me voice my gifts. I led a MIDWEEK in Oct. 2020 — an invitation to public ministry that helped me find my path today.
I’m so pleased with the growth and balance of BHFH’s public programs since. MIDWEEK continues as a weekly spiritual practice while the annual Ernest and Esther Weed Memorial Lecture holds space for deeper dives into Quakerism. Most recently, the House hosted a program on Quaker Indigenous boarding schools inviting participants into reckoning, reflection, and action.
The BHFH residential community experience is another way BHFH is a powerful place to grow and deepen. Although I haven’t been a resident at BHFH, I’ve spent time swapping stories with community members over House dinner when I stay there for board meetings. I so appreciate how residency — BHFH’s deepest and longest-standing program — provides approachable entry points to explore what Quaker values have to offer in daily communal life.
BHFH’s building and space itself is a ministry, offering significantly discounted or free facility rental rates for mission-aligned nonprofit and community groups.
BHFH Program Fellowships offer the opportunity to live as members of the residential community and work with BHFH staff and committees in deepening the work of the house — and their own development.
These programs and the vibrant community, spirituality, and action they enable have called me to serve and support this special place unlike any I’ve encountered before.
Because all donations this holiday season will be matched dollar-for-dollar (up to $12,000), your impact for Beacon Hill Friends House can go twice as far.
Will you join me in making a donation to Beacon Hill Friends House this holiday season?
Onward in friendship, Bobby Trice BHFH Board of Managers Clerk of BHFH Development Committee
