Goal

Planet Detroit is three reporters covering the environmental stories no one else will — no paywall, no corporate owner, no ads. This year, we exposed a decade-long fluoride cover-up in Wyandotte, were the only newsroom at the Zug Island air pollution trial, and broke the data center investigations that reached the Washington Post and the LA Times.

Reader support is how we stay here. A gift of any size — one-time or monthly — keeps someone watching. Please consider a donation as part of our Spring Campaign.

Prefer to send a check? Please make the check payable to Michigan Environmental Council. In the memo line, indicate that your donation is for Planet Detroit. Mailing address: 602 W Ionia St, Lansing, MI 48933. All donations to Planet Detroit are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, Michigan Environmental Council. EIN: 38-2517980

I’m impressed! Margaret Mead’s quote fits perfectly here: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens (reporters) can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has!”

Planet Detroit's remarkable and thorough coverage of Zug Island/DTE EES Coke Battery case was my greatest asset in writing my capstone paper at UM-FLINT. In fact, my conclusion stated that the existence of local, independent, environmental journalism is one of the most crucial pieces in achieving success in the fight for environmental justice! Thank you all so so much for the incredible and important work that you do!

I'm lucky to live by the Detroit River with a fantastic view. I had no idea Hennepin Point had such toxic secrets and they are airborne! Thank you for making me aware. And keeping after the powers to test and retest this area!
