Goal
Making the decision to pick up a hammer and forge an ornamental iron railing, to learn to solder electronics for the first time, to weld a kinetic bike sculpture—is badass. But even more badass is making the decision to support the next generation of badass artists.
For many young people, The Crucible is where they realize they are creative. With a torch in hand, the mental blocks around creative thinking disappear. We need you to step up and #BeABadass to make their future artistic journeys possible.
$100K Before the Year Ends Means We Can
- Host 60 young women, ages twelve to sixteen, for an expanded Gear Girls program to build skills and confidence in welding
- Expand our Fuego Youth Leadership Program to serve 25 youth and provide 100 more hours of year-round support to each participant
- Build out a new craft entrepreneurship pathway in jewelry and leather for young people who want to sell the work they learn to make at The Crucible in the creative economy
- Partner with Oakland Unified School District, Peralta Colleges, and industry partners to launch an apprenticeship program that helps young people develop careers in the welding and wood trades
