Feeding Kids Donation Page: School Break Deliveries and Weekend Backpacks

For many Cleveland County children, the breakfast and lunch they eat at school is the only food they can depend on each day. We want to make sure that they still have nutritious food every weekend when those school meals are not available. Social workers at individual schools identify which children are in need of weekend backpacks. Each school year, people from our community sign up to donate the same food item once a month to fill up these backpacks and give our kids dependable food on the weekends.

Many organizations provide weekend backpacks to kids, which is wonderful. But something Feeding Kids alone specializes in is larger food box deliveries directly to students’ homes over school breaks and summer break.

When students are away from school for extended periods of time, those dependable school meals go away as well. FKCC volunteers work hard to collect, package and deliver food directly to kids to keep their bellies full over those breaks. This is one of our favorite activities because we actually get to visit our families and spend time showing these kids that they matter to their community. All kinds of groups and organizations host food drives to provide food for these boxes.
