BACC's General Fund

Happy Preservation Month! Of course, as the only nonprofit art conservation organization in the western region, every month at Balboa Art Conservation Center is preservation month. We are excited to celebrate this month with you and highlight the importance of preserving our collective cultural heritage and the stories it tells.

Throughout the month, our team is leading and participating in a range of activities that highlight the importance of preservation in our collections, our communities, and our region at large. These activities include:

  • A question and answer session with regional caretakers on collection emergency preparedness and response

  • Tours of the BACC labs for community members to see conservation in action

  • The infrared imaging of a significant Rococo painting to identify changes made by the artist

  • The examination and treatment of polychrome wood sculptures from Mission San Luis Rey

  • A presentation on our successful train-the-trainer program which enabled teachers at Freese Elementary school to integrate conservation knowledge into their curriculum

  • The cleaning of a HUGE textile panel (68’ feet wide!!) from the 1970s installation “Running Fence” by Christo and Jeanne-Claude

  • So much more!!

All of these activities would not be possible without your amazing support. You enable us to provide preservation services to collections and communities throughout 10 states!

A gift this month will help us continue our mission to advance the study and preservation of cultural heritage for all communities. Your support is essential as we demystify the field of art conservation, highlight the fascinating intersections of art and science, and offer art collectors and institutional caretakers access to the tools and resources necessary to care for the region’s cultural collections–this month and every month.

We appreciate your support, and wish you the happiest Preservation Month!
